Becoming a landscape photographer!

With Julien Grondin (@beboy_photography)

Nowadays traveling and photography are my two passions. In fact, to stay at home for more than two weeks can be painful for me. Even if I don’t travel overseas, I have to hit the road to feel good. And I feel even much better when I take my camera with me!

At this point is when I really started to take photography seriously. I noticed that my customers wanted graphic designs, but also quite often they asked for photographs. So I learned how to use a DSLR camera as soon as I could. Honestly, I have to say that learning how to use the camera was much easier than what I expected. Although most likely my background and knowledge about graphic design, composition, color management and aesthetic in general helped me a lot. Back then I used to shot mainly corporate portraits and objects. That was cool, but not super exciting. Also, I spent most of my time in the office, which is not the best in my opinion.

Pretty soon traveling became my passion, taking most of my free time. I took tons of photos during these trips, probably way too many but I loved that! Then I  slowly began to take fewer photos and focused on improving my skills looking for better light, better composition, and better images in general.

I love being in the wild, but to be honest my favorite part of photography is editing. Blending my skills in graphic design and editing photos is what I love! In my opinion, the raw files are just a starting point and I’m not afraid to play around with Lightroom, and mostly Photoshop, to achieve the render I’m looking for.

A few years ago I began to share my first photos on social media and they soon became quite popular. Social media brought me good contacts and I managed to make some money with my photos by selling them to travel agencies. Enough to leave my full-time job as a graphic designer and jump entirely into the photography industry! Now I’m a full-time landscape photographer, and I also get to teach photography!
