Landscape photographer based in Switzerland

I think my passion for nature and art in general came 13 years ago when I moved from the hot mediterranean coast of the south Italy to the cold Switzerland’s alps. At the age of 14 I found myself in a completely new environment where all my connections with the past had been broken. I remember that wasn’t easy, the load of stress my mind was going through was hard to manage. So, since I’ve always been an introverted guy and human relationships have never been my priorities, I found that the only way to escape temporarily from that pressure was to go out to explore the natural world around me and then, once back home, translate the gathered energy into music.

"Now, after 14 years and at the age of 28, the basis of my artistic process is still the same - even if it’s getting more complex and developed day by day."

After many years of field recording and audio sampling in natural environments photography finally came into the game. I thought it would be nice to show people what was actually inspiring me in music and how your mind could transform and create thousand of different ideas from just a detail or a scene you saw during in your morning hike, for example. The fact that I can express myself with both visual and audio art is something that makes me feel somehow more complete as my artistic language now has a wider range to play with human senses.

"Photography also taught me an important lesson, which is not only valid for photos or music, but also for how I deal with my everyday life."

Sometimes we passively look at the complete scene in front of us thinking that there is nothing special in it – probably because it is a similar thing we’ve seen thousand of times – so we just pass and walk on. Truth is that I found the best spots and the greatest inspiration going back to the same location more and more, looking and deeply analyzing whatever was around me, observing the light changing hour after hour and how the different weather could completely transform the scenery, forcing myself to find that detail I didn’t catch the last time I was there.

This way of thinking also has a close connection with my dark style of editing. I want to push the mind of the viewer to go through the same process and so to go beyond the simple overview and to start digging into the picture to find his favorite detail. Of course it doesn’t have the same first impact of a well and bright exposed landscape picture but it is much more fulfilling once you finally understand completely what you are looking at.

"Furthermore, innovation is another crucial point of what I try to reach as artist."

This is an exciting side of art that no artist should overlook. What I do when I’m working in both music and photography is to always try to clear away the “clutter” I have inherited from traditional sources or from other people’s work, and focus on my own process instead – even if I’m finding myself committing a theoretical mistake or if I’m going beyond unknown boundaries. I believe that giving your own imprint in whatever you do as an artist, making you different from everyone else, is the hardest but still the most satisfying part of our job.

"Inspiration comes mainly from the deep and intimate relationship between me and the nature."

I love to be alone out there, especially in rainy, foggy and snowy days, feeling detached from the human world is something that I really need to be ok with myself. Even if it’s after a long day spent at work, at night or whenever, driving through the mountains for a few hours and back home makes me feel a lot better. That feeling and ‘place’ of solitude where there’s no one around and where I can just concentrate and study my own feelings and experiences, dealing with my problems…putting out all my negative thoughts and instead getting back fresh and clean energy is what inspires my mind.
