After studying sales and marketing, I realized that it was not what I wanted to do the rest of my life. I started doing drawing and painting and I began to develop a passion for art, so I decided to study graphic design and visual communication. After finishing, I did the entrance exam for the school of fine arts of Toulouse, but I was not accepted. At that time of my life I felt that I needed radical changes; I ended up in New Zealand traveling around for a year. Everything was new, and I discovered all the new feelings that come along with such a trip.
Although I was into art already, I only started with photography during this trip. The small and cheap Olympus camera that I had was enough to get me excited about photography, obviously together with the landscapes in New Zealand. Once I got back in France, I found myself a job and on my days off I continued to explore photography with my new bought DSLR. Besides landscape photography, I began with street and reportage photography, and doing portraiture.
However, I couldn’t stay long in France. I was craving to discover a new country and culture and soon I moved to Montreal, Canada, with my girlfriend. She started university and I entered Marsan College, a photography school. I learned all the techniques of photography, though I’ve since oriented towards fashion and advertising photography. I graduated, won several competitions afterwards and became GENNEXT ambassador for Broncolor. I am now specialized in fashion and advertising photography on location, with studio light, so I can bring together all areas of photography.
I enjoy the diversity in my photography; when doing fashion shootings I can create a story while with portrait photography I can transmit the story of the model. I love animal photography because of the connection you build with the animal, while I enjoy landscape photography to disconnect from everything else and to live the moment. I like to integrate the different worlds as well, landscape with fashion for example, so I can combine my to favorites.
With regard to the editing part, I do very little apart from a little desaturation, light tones reduction and play with contrasts. Everything really happens during the shooting, I always underexpose and adjust my white balance manually by changing the color temperature (Kelvin degrees) depending on what I want to get. I may be a bit old school but I think it is very important to be able to have the picture as I imagined it when shooting.
As a result, it has taught me to look differently at the world and at my surroundings, to see what lies behind everything and every person, to reveal the beauty behind everything, even of what may seem insignificant. However, the part I enjoy least of photography is the importance of social media that comes with it. I think it has a negative influence on many things, and it creates unnecessary pressure. I am present on Instagram because as an artist, I don’t really have choice. I prefer to consider Instagram as a showcase portfolio to be seen by potential clients rather than a race to likes or followers, it is sad to see that sometimes quantity seems to be more important than quality.
