Landscape photographer based in Switzerland

My name is Arnaud Dorsaz, I am 22 and live in the south of Switzerland, in Valais. It was five years ago that I got interested in photography, during a school trip. A friend of me had a camera with him and he showed me the basics of photography on this trip. After that trip, I started to ask my dad –  who is a mountain guide – about it since he had done it a lot when he was younger. He advised me about several aspects, from photography spots to techniques and the artistic approach of photography. I am lucky to have a good bond with my dad and we have done various long trips together, particularly by sailboat in Antarctica and Greenland. This type of travels helped us realize the greatness of nature…

"Nowadays we always have the desire to discover more of it."

As I continue to study geology, I try to go outdoors as much as possible in order to keep learning about the Earth. The camera, of course, always comes with me. In geology, we focus on natural formations, particularly rock formations. As with every interest, it influences you a lot in how you perceive the things you encounter during the day, and that is definitely my case as well. When I am taking a walk, I look at the rocks and wonder how the layers are orientated, where the folds are, how many fractures it has and of what material the rock is composed. I am victim of professional geological formation, I always want to know how nature has been formed and when I have the answers, I try to take all these elements into account in my photography.

"So, photography - as well as geology - made that I look at nature in a different way than other people might."

I always find a place photogenic or interesting and I enjoy looking at it from different compositions even if I don’t have my camera with me. I imagine how I photo could look like after editing. I love it when I managed to have a spectacular photo at the end, with a unique composition, a balanced use of colors and a catchy subject and people say “wow!” To reach this result, it helps to be often out in nature to feed my inspiration for photography.  I also follow talented photographers on Instagram such as @aaronbhall, @_fabiozingg, @b_p1, @thomas.luisiser and many others.

I have still a lot to learn about photography, and I am discovering editing styles, landscapes, weather conditions, and how to edit accordingly while taking into account the feeling I had when shooting.

I would like to create a healthy jealousy that motivates to go outside, experience this beautiful natural event and can get to know this amazing feeling that affects both body and mind when being there, watching the sun starting to shine and noticing the warmth of the sun rays on the face. I believe everyone should experience the nature, passionate about photography or not, because it makes you a different person when you can appreciate all the wonders and details that can be found out there.
