My passion for photography came together with my passion for traveling. At the age of 19, an unforgettable trip to Mexico fired up my ambition to see the world and capture it with my camera. Going to Mexico was my first trip outside of Europe, it has an incredible history and culture, each mountain or beach has a meaningful story. The thing that amazed me the most was the first comparison with another way of living life; the diversity within our world.

"This has pushed my curiosity to explore more and I decided that traveling around the world would be my way to escape ordinary life; I started once a year and now I usually travel three to four times a year."

First I was documenting my travels with my phone but soon I felt that I wanted more to share my experience with other people and bring home something special that I would never forget. Still today that’s what is essential for me in my photography: being able to share it with other people, transmitting the sensations that I felt while I was shooting and encourage people to visit the same places that I’ve been to. 

I started doing that about five years ago with a basic camera, Canon 1300d. When I realized that photography would be my thing, I changed to a Canon 80d and now I am using a full frame camera, a Canon eos R. I think that your photographic skills grow step by step and some of these steps are photographic equipment. I’d be crazy if I say there’s no difference between these cameras and I’d be crazy if I say there’s no difference between the lenses that you use. For this moment, I am satisfied with my Canon R, my lenses and of course my drone DJI Mavic Pro; they make me reach a level that I couldn’t reach before.

"Of course I wouldn’t get there just with having good camera gear, so I always try to improve my photographic skills by other means."

Wandering outside awaiting the sunset or waiting for hours and hours for a leopard to appear, allowed me to spend a lot of time with my camera until it has become a part of my body. There’s no better way to learn than practice. However, as long as you might be waiting you will nearly never get that perfect moment, so every pictures need a little editing. So I look at my pics wondering what’s missing, trying to give them a personal touch that diversifies every single shot from others.

In my case, I own a restaurant and I am a sommelier. The restaurant was built by my parents and my passion has grown while I was working there. Although it wasn’t my dream, now after 10 years I really like to work in this context with food and wines. As a result of the presence of social media in our everyday lives we also share our dishes online, so it happened that I’m doing food photography as well. I really think it’s great to have two passions that go well together. Photography is part of my everyday life, either for my passion for landscapes and travel, which is my main focus within photography, or for the restaurant. I hope that one day I can have my own wine cellar and guide wine tastings, while at the same time growing to become professional freelance photographer, still being able to travel and discover the world because that’s something I won’t give up.

The best memories I have were made traveling: The magnificent hike on ‘big daddy’, the world highest dune in Namibia, the atmosphere at the spitzkoppe campsite; just four friends and a fire under the Milky Way in the middle of nowhere and playing ‘Chinlone’ (a traditional Burmese game) with some locals close to Kalaw, a small village in the mountains of Myanmar. Not to forget the moment when we were surrounded by fog on the Kalsoy island while our only company was just a couple of sheep and exploring Faroe Island, feeling strongly connected to Mother Nature… All these experiences helped me to realize that our world has so much to offer, that we can really be connected to nature and other cultures, which allows you to grow as a human being and to adjust your points of view because you get to understand the universe better.

Every trip, every country, every culture, every person that I’ve met, has a special place in my heart and has become a piece of who I am today. It also depends on the way you travel. According to me, traveling with a campervan is one the amazing things I would recommend doing. It allows you to do anything you want: Eating some pasta at a random spot on your way from one place to another, sleeping during the day and moving during the night to avoid the crowds of tourists, stopping to contemplate a sunset wherever you want… There are so many reasons that make traveling with a campervan a good choice, especially if you are a photographer! But I acknowledge that it’s not possible in every part of the world and the way you travel should be adapted to the country you are at. 

After all, for me traveling is the best way to enjoy life, to enjoy the universe where we are part of and learn about it. Especially traveling with friends is what makes a trip unforgettable for me; sharing moments and experiences around the world together with someone, and remembering the adventure when being back home, with a beer, around the table…
