My name is Rylan Wheaton and I’m from Caronport, Canada. My interest in photography grew after I stumbled across a few of Peter McKinnon’s videos on YouTube. For Christmas one year, my parents gave me a used Canon Rebel T3. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I loved photography.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve come to both appreciate my home and develop a clear desire to travel the world. I view my area of Saskatchewan as an interesting creative challenge, forcing myself to find new and interesting compositions. At the same time, the lack of diversity in the landscape makes me constantly look forward to the next adventure, which has fueled my love for travel.
Saskatchewan offers no oceans or mountains; nor does it offer any crazy landscapes that cover so many Instagram feeds. So, I’d say that my ultimate goal through sharing photography on social media is to inspire people to go out and explore, whether it’s heading to the other side of the planet, or taking another look at your own backyard!
This is arguably the most valuable thing about social media, being able to find and meet like-minded people and inspire each other. I look forward to strengthening my connections with people I’ve already met – and hopefully meeting new people. I can see myself exploring more, simply for the love of exploring.
It might sound funny, but I would love to see what it was like to be the first person to have stumbled upon Moraine Lake in Banff National Park. It has become probably the most well-known landscape in Canada, and maybe one of the better-known spots on the planet, and I think it would be cool to experience seeing that incredible spot for the first time!
