Landscape photographer based in Switzerland

My name is Rene Schaedler and I am a Swiss landscape photographer. As a child I spent a lot of time in the beautiful mountains. My parents rented an apartment in a farmer’s house for about 25 years. At that time, I already discovered the forest and played at the river enjoying the peaceful environment.

In terms of photography, the first seconds when the sun appears behind the mountain range are priceless to me. I aim to capture these beautiful moments at their best. I love when the first sun rays hit the top of the trees and the leaves light up beautifully with this indirect translucent light.

Most of the time I explore locations within Switzerland. There are plenty of amazing locations and my goal is to find these hidden gems within my country and abroad. It’s sometimes a challenge to find these unique angles or virtually unknown spots. Also, I aim to travel abroad to places by the ocean or sea, since Switzerland does not offer any of these fantastic views.

Three years ago, I decided to book a photography workshop in Tuscany with the company “Amazing Views,” ran by a very kind and professional couple, without any equipment and knowhow to use the “new” tools.

"This experience reignited my passion for photography."

Nowadays I spend 90% of my spare time for photography, which includes planning (Google Earth, Social Media, Apps etc.), traveling, hiking, scouting, shooting and editing.

I don’t really use presets since I always try to recreate the emotions of the scene I experienced (most of the time alone). The camera is essentially just the tool to bring home the composition, the lighting, and the colors of the scene. Editing enables me to recreate the emotions, because the camera cannot capture everything that I am “seeing” in the viewfinder.

Overall, thanks to travel and photography I have learned that I have to be thankful for what I have and to be satisfied with my life.

"When I am sitting and waiting for good light conditions, I often think that I am lucky to be born in such a harmonious region of the world."
