About “Tegallalang rice terrace, Bali” and Sean Lim

“It can be tricky to fly the drone over the rice terrace to get that majestic sweeping view due to the wires and cables crossing the rice terrace. After some location scouting, I captured a series of shots that I later stitched into a vertical panorama. Coming here on a clear-sky day helped get some dramatic lights.

Our timing was ideal since half the rice terrace had already turned golden yellow while the other half remained green, and this combination gave somewhat contrasty colors in the final shot. Call that blessing in disguise, as I was slightly anxious that the timing of the visit was not ideal for that lush green landscape shot.

Editing the photo was easy once the panorama stitching was done and aligned. Slight adjustment to the tone curve and the HSL sliders in Lightroom effortlessly brought out the contrast I was seeking when I planned the shot in my mind. Adding some masking brush to the periphery of the photo helped to bring attention to the subject, which in this case is the heart-shaped rice terrace. The strategically located coconut trees served to frame the field and added another layer of aesthetics to the shot. Last but not least, I dehazed the top of the photo to enhance the foggy vibes of the morning excursion on the Tegallalang rice terrace, and voila!”
