My mom believed that traveling makes a man whole, and I think that’s true!
Already as a child I traveled a lot. My parents would always take me traveling either in the country or abroad whenever we all had time.
Most of the places that we have been to were outdoor and had beautiful landscapes, as opposed to museums or city views. I think this kind of experience helped me pick up the hobby of shooting. So, capturing something that we don’t really see every day in our lives became like an obsession to me.
The lightning was one of the most sacred I had ever seen – even though I am not a religious person!
With the mighty mountains in the backdrop, I could also hear cowbells, birds chirping, and the wind breezing through the grass.
I also found out not far away there was a bunch of locals having a little sing and dance session in a garden. I went over, introduced who I was and asked if my girlfriend and I could join. Despite the fact that we didn’t know each other before and that we did not even speak the same language, they quickly welcomed us with a beer and proposed to dance with.
After this short but warm experience with laughter and joy, I started to realized that regardless of language barrier, religious belief, citizenship, or race, we as global citizens can all unite together and appreciate what life has to offer. I would relive this moment a thousand times if I could.
I know that it is so easy to stay in our comfort zone and I admit that sometimes I am like that too! But once we get out there we would realize the world is bigger than what we think and how insignificant we all are. All our perspectives or negativities would go away because the world is full of excitement and love.
So, you could say that my ultimate goal with photography is to inspire people to develop a more adventurous spirit, to become their own hero. And of course, I want to shoot and explore on my own too. Not only because shooting is my hobby, but even if I am not shooting, I would still enjoy what traveling brings me on the go and how it is constantly changing my life in a positive way.
One of my favorite quotes is from the movie, “the secret life of Walter Mitty”, where the wildlife photographer has all the gears set up but refuses to shoot when the snow leopard comes out, and says, “sometimes I don’t shoot. If I like a moment, for me, personally, I don’t like to have the distraction of the camera. I just want to stay in it”.
