When I was 18 years old I first traveled overseas. On this occasion I visited Australia in order to improve my English and of course, I bought a camera so I could capture some nice memories. Since this was my first camera, I had to practice a bit. So I spent some time shooting all varieties of things.
Once I arrived to Australia I found it quite difficult to express myself in English. To be honest, at that time it was not easy to understand me and therefore, I struggled making friends. So my camera became an excellent travel companion and I ended up this trip taking it everywhere with me. However, when I got back home I left the camera aside for almost two years.
Eventually, a good friend of mine who moved to Canada invited me to spend some time there. I accepted right away and we spent three months together. The best of all? We bought a mini van and went on a road trip!
It was along this trip when I truly discovered my passion for travel. I still remember those good times, exploring wonderful places and sharing special memories. I think this was a tipping point. To share the same path with someone else certainly enhances the travel experience in my opinion.
Also, while we were traveling we challenged ourselves to capture the best photos possible. So we were really methodic always shooting, choosing the right sites and the best moments. And just like this I realized that landscape photography was actually something I really enjoyed as well.
Once back home, I planned a few trips with my friends and eventually I met my girlfriend. Guess what? She is also passioned about travel! Ever since we met we have been trying to travel as much as possible.
For our first trip to South America, we visited Peru and Bolivia. These countries contain some of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen, so I continued to shoot a great amount of photos along the trip.
Over time I started to explore numerous spots going further and further into the wilderness seeking out the most remote sites, lights and colors I could find.
Overall, photography has made a great impact in my life because it really pushes me to get out of my comfort zone.
Now I’m trying to perfect my technique, improve my skills and maybe one day become a full time photographer, rather that having a job that does not satisfy me.
