Traveler and photographer based in New Zealand

I was just trying out the camera of my sister, like a little hobby or to have something fun to do, and from there my enthusiasm and passion for photography grew. Meanwhile, my passion for traveling, I mean the real kind of travel and not just a holiday, was born in Bolivia. I went there together with my sister to do voluntary work for about one and a half month; we stayed in a little and poor village somewhere in the Andes mountains. Both photography and travel have become a passion slowly and gradually, since little by little, with every experience and every shot, I understood that this was what made me happy, what made me feel so good and thus what I wanted to keep doing.

"When I realized that these two passions go perfectly together, I knew travel photography was my thing."

I can’t imagine a life without photography or adventurous journeys. Thanks to these two passions I always keep myself busy with some kind of project, work, dream or trip. You don’t need great skills to make meaningful and unforgettable travels, you just need to have a bunch of courage to pack your stuff and just leave. Then it’s up to you to keep going; anything can happen and it all feels magic. There are always manners to finance your travels, if you really want to, that doesn’t have to be an issue. I work in a ski area in the Alps in Italy and this seasonal job allows me to earn money and have time to travel.

"Here in New Zealand I just work to buy a van and to continue the big road trip."
"I choose the vanlife to have the complete freedom to move around and to follow the light of the sun."

Wherever I park becomes my new house and the garden is the environment around me. I travel alone, so my travel mates are the guys and girls that have a kind of life similar to mine and whom I randomly meet in different places. Sometimes, when I spend the night in a the wild, I’m just accompanied by nature: The songs of the birds, the light of the moon, the sound of the wind, and so on. It all sounds amazing, but this kind of life is not always easy; I had to expand my comfort zone because having a vanlife is different… No fresh water, no bathroom nor shower whenever you want, no wifi, living in an oven during Summer and feeling cold all Winter long… But when I cook in my little motorhome and I watch through the window, I always have a new view, a new landscape to photograph. I’ve all I need on my fingertips; this is my comfort zone now.

I have still a lot to learn about photography, and I am discovering editing styles, landscapes, weather conditions, and how to edit accordingly while taking into account the feeling I had when shooting.

"I go with the flow and that’s what I appreciate most of all: The freedom to plan a road trip."

Even if sometimes there isn’t a real plan and I just follow the road until I find a good spot for a photo, or when I’m hungry or tired. This life style taught me to be happy with simple things and with very little stuff for living. I care more about what I do have; less is more! In our busy lives, we use too many disposable things and we forget the real value of the stuff. Though what we especially we forget is to spend time on ourselves, like reading a book in the nature or writing our feeling and experience on a diary.

"I believe traveling plays an important role in becoming a better person."

I think that traveling is a remedy for our souls. It help to know ourselves better, to discover new things about ourselves and the world, to open the mind to new cultures, languages, food and improve our ability to adapt. Traveling doesn’t only mean to be happy and to enjoy with friends, but also to overcome sad periods, to win challenges and to stay alone in order to listen to your deeper thoughts. Traveling isn’t just defined by moving from one place to another; it includes making an introspective journey, trying to understand your mind and how you work, enjoying every day of life in a conscious way. I have to say that the most beautiful thing of my travels are the people I meet; everyone is a world aside with their own personal story, problem and dream. Travel changes your life in so many aspects!

"To elaborate on that… Every country and every travel has had a great impact on me."

I won’t be able to rank them or choose. For sure Bolivia was the place I first fell in love with the the real kind of travel and where I saw the poor side of the life, but full of emotions. While volunteering I did different kinds of jobs to help the people and it was also a great “playground” to exercise my photography. Then, in Morocco, I lived one of the best sunsets of my life: Everyone around the camping of the Sahara desert climbed up to a different dune, creating a magical atmosphere with a red sun and the dromedaries. When talking about magic though, maybe the right place is Lofoten Island in Norway. An unbelievable archipelago with a weird mix of crystalline water and stunning mountains perfect for skiing and climbing. Right there, on our last night, we saw the unreal Northern lights and the sky became green. Now I am in New Zealand, which is a country that surprises me every day with its incredibly beautiful nature.

"I am sure I am not done traveling and I will keep being impacted in a unique way by each country."
"For me, photography is an art."

The art of watching the world from a different perspective, the art of capturing with a click a specific moment and lights, the art of conveying the right feeling and to stop the time for ever. Through photography I discovered that it doesn’t stop by looking at appearances, but that there’s so much behind the first impression. I see the world through a magnifying glass, paying attention to details and perceiving reality more colorful and appealing. At the end, pictures are memories of our own special life, and the magical power of a photograph is to bring back all the emotions and feelings you had at that time. A picture is forever.

I know that this passion is the right one for me, and if I keep working hard and aiming higher and higher, I know I can reach ambitious goals. My dream is to work for National Geographic or The North Face, or for some other brand with people and public that share my passion for mountains, travel and sport. I also would love to go somewhere with the mission to tell a story, documenting something unusual like following a skier or climber and capturing as much as possible of these incredible masterpieces of sport. Or maybe discovering some culture in place where tourism hasn’t arrived yet, where everything is still natural, remarking the signs of history and time. I’m a dreamer and I’ve nothing clear about my future, nobody actually has, but the only thing I know is that I have been fulfilling and deepening my soul over the past years and I want to keep doing that.
