Landscape photographer based in Germany

My name is Lars and I am a landscape photographer based in Germany.

My passion for traveling and photography did not start at a young age, like many others. Actually, I did not get a camera until I was a grown man. The most shocking thing about my story is that I used to hate hiking! I still remember exactly how my family and I once went hiking in Austria and I asked my parents, “Why we do this here?” Luckily, my interests have changed quite a bit as you will find out.

So, until my 25th birthday I didn’t have much of an interest in photography.

At some point, my sister bought a camera. She took so many beautiful pictures and I thought to myself: I would like to give it a try!

As I browsed through Instagram and saw all these incredibly beautiful places that were photographed, I chose to refocus my primary interests in photography from automotive to landscape photography.

"Thus, Instagram's community had a great influence in this regard."

On my first big trip, I went to Switzerland with a colleague. When we visited the first location, we were just overwhelmed by the mountain passes, the valleys, and the beautiful alpine lakes. We immediately fell in love with this beautiful landscape. It was that trip that piqued my interest in landscape photography. However, when I look at the pictures from Switzerland again today, I see all the mistakes we made.

We always slept in comfortable places, far from the ideal photographic spots. So, most of the times we had the most terrible light for shooting. But I enjoyed the trips and being able to experience the majestic scenery. My highlight of this tour was when we stood on the Moiry Glacier in the Valais Alps. It was simply indescribable! Unfortunately, I could not use the pictures from there because the mood was catastrophic.

"But nobody can take me away the feeling of being there. This, after all, is the best thing about landscape photography."

I’ve learned that it’s important to step outside of your comfort zone, even if that means to wake up in the middle of the night to catch a sunrise. Landscape photography can be quite challenging from both a mental and physical point of view. But no words can describe how good you can feel when you push your own limits and succeed. Plus, the perks of being a landscape photographer include relaxing and enjoying the tranquility of nature!

"There are so many beautiful places to explore in the world. You should not spend much time on trivial matters. Life is short, don't forget to live it!"
