Landscape photographer based in Iceland

My name is Jón Helgi Snorrason and I am a landscape photographer, based in Reykjavík, Iceland. Since childhood, I remember my father used to take me on photography trips and at that time he was taking photos on a film. It fascinated me that he could capture a moment in time by using a camera.

"So, it was my father who inspired me to become a photographer and for that I am very grateful."

In order to travel and wander around I bought a car that handles the harsh conditions of Iceland. Eventually I built a sleeping platform and made some minor modifications to the car. I feel really lucky because I have been able to travel throughout the country in any season and in all kinds of weather, exploring for days on end in the highlands immersed in the landscape.

"I thrive in the mountains. And that's my passion!"

I will keep traveling and exploring because it simply helps me feel free. For me that would be my goal to show my emotions and experiences through photography and hopefully motivate and inspire others to do the same: to go on journeys and adventures and create their own beautiful memories. My style slowly developed from my interest of the dark moody weather in Iceland.

"This country has influenced my style because it is cold, dark, and ominous. It gives me the impression of bleak emptiness. And I like to recreate that mood in my edits."

I remember happily that time when my friend pointed out a location that I was very interested in. He warned me that it might be quite difficult to get to, because it was an old trail up a steep mountain. You have to drive on the mountain top where the road narrows. It rained a few days previously, which made the journey even more challenging. After a lot of effort and pushing the limits, I finally recovered from a lot of stress and anxiety. But it was such a glorious location with perfect conditions for me.

"Then and there, I was rewarded with my favorite photograph."
