My name is Javier Somoza and I am a 31 years old Spanish photographer.
Thanks to your votes I am sharing with all of you my story as a visual creator, which started more than 10 years ago. So, about a decade ago I captured my first photograph with a DSLR and ever since I have been hocked about photography.
At the beginning of my career I focused on photo edition. Graphic design was my thing and actually it is still part of what I do for a living. Back then I used to retouch stock photos of the world’s most amazing landscapes and iconic sites.
As I edited the images, I asked to myself:
Creating the final product from the scratch was something I wanted to do. However, for various reasons, I kept working editing all sorts of stock photos: urban, portraits, commercial, you name it…
Looking back in time I can say that I learnt a lot editing thousands of images. But eventually I realized the following: I am trying to make look epic all these images, but I also want my life to be epic!
To travel has given me the opportunity to see incredible things, and most importantly, to find myself. Every trip, specially when I travel to take photographs, has its own challenges. Every time I go outdoors I have to be flexible so I can adapt to my surroundings. Is this mindset what allows me to grow as a person and professional. And this is exactly what drives me nowadays: Self mastering.
