Landscape photographer based in Switzerland

My name is Fred (@widderfred) and I am a 30 years old photographer from Lucerne, Switzerland. I spent 5 years living in Zermatt, one of the most beautiful spots in the Alps. I still remember those beautiful hikes with my family around the mountain range. We spent every free minute exploring this amazing region. Yet, as a teenager, these hikes felt like a torture to me. It was not until I grew older when I realized how important all these trips were.

"Today, going outdoors gives me a lot of energy and I feel empowered every time I return back home after a long hike."

There is no more intense way of life than being outdoors in the mountains in the middle of wilderness. You feel content, motivated and quiet. Out in nature, I feel as free as an eagle. That’s why I try to be outside as often as possible. Although, of course, I do not always succeed in this busy world.

After a week in the office, the biggest thing for me is to spend a weekend outside in the mountains, whether camping, mountain biking or hiking. And, of course, taking photographs. When one is in the wild, there are so many amazing moments worth capturing! Don’t you think?

One of my favorite regions to visit is probably the Bernese Alps in Switzerland. There are countless cabins to photograph there, as well as abandoned sites which feel completely unspoiled.

"The possibilities are endless!"

To be honest, I have been to wonderful countries such as Norway, for instance. However, I find Switzerland to be super special. I extremely recommend you to visit us one day! Graubünden or the Engadin are two places you should definitely check out, I am also looking forward to visit again these two impressive sites!

In the meantime, I will continue showing you my favourite sites around Swiss with the hope of inspiring you to travel more often. I know sometimes it can feel quite hard to go out. However, to overcome that initial demotivation will give you a huge mental reward afterwards. Once you are outside, surrounded by the wild, everything seems to fit in.

As Henry David Thoreau once said: “There are moments when all anxiety and stated toil are becalmed in the infinite leisure and repose of nature.”
