My name is Morten Dodson, a 32 year old photographer from Norway. My passion for nature and travel has roots way back to when I was a kid. I grew up at that time when we climbed trees and rode bikes outside, and I am lucky that my parents have always taken me on hikes and ski trips. I guess this is the foundation of my love for nature and being outdoors.
I got my first DSLR at the age of 19, but I have been on and off with photography over the years. It was in the end of 2017 that I really started to feel passionate about photography. I was in a desk job with a lack of creativity in my work, while Instagram was full of incredible content that inspired me to travel more. I wanted to live and capture those moments myself. So to make dreams reality: I went to Iceland.
At this point photography is a part time hobby and freelance work, though I would like to keep improving and work more with photography and creative content developing in the future. Until now, I’ve learned by trials and errors and several tutorials. My girlfriend has helped me to understand color theory with her skills from media and marketing, which has changed the way I look at photos. Personally, I like the desaturated style and I love to emphasize and enhance the earthy colors.
I mainly use Adobe Lightroom for editing my photos, though sometimes I use Photoshop for an extra touch; the possibilities you have with these tools are endless and I love the way I can achieve the look I intended for a photo. I believe that a personal style is always evolving and I continuously find myself fine tuning my style. I try to convey the mood, the story or the vibes which I felt in the moment of taking the picture. However, as a creator, there will always be moments when your content doesn’t get the response you hoped for, the lack of reach in social media and so on.
Photography has certainly taught me a life lesson about doing what I love regardless of what others may think. I enjoy sharing what I created because the social platforms let us connect, respond and give feedback to fellow creators which again leads to encouragement and improvement of our skills. Photography is like experiences, they’re best when shared with others.
I would like to conclude my story with an important note. I have traveled to many amazing destinations, but I have also been exposed to the not so beautiful sides of this world. It is sad to see how much litter gets thrown around and how little knowledge there is about this issue. I could ofcourse bring up many more subjects about climate, but littering is an issue that we all can take a part of to improve. Just a few months ago I went to Bali and Nusa Penida with my girlfriend and we were shocked by the masses of bottles and other plastic litter floating around. I consider myself as an animal caring person, and it breaks my heart thinking of everything these defenseless animals are exposed to.
