My name is George Kerr and I am 19 years old, who was born and raised in Alaska and am still living in Eagle River, Alaska today. I’ve been taking photos for a little over two years and shoot with a Sony A7lll.
My passion for travel and photography are connected to two things: my passion for backpacking and my determination for exploring my beautiful home state of Alaska. I’m constantly pushing myself to get off the trail and explore as much of the backcountry as possible. Alaska is full of beauty but I believe that the true beauty of Alaska is off the trails in the backcountry. John Muir once said, “You should never go to Alaska as a young man because you’ll never be satisfied with any other place as long as you live.” I’ve never heard anything as true as this and I’m continuously experiencing this myself every time I get out and explore.
My inspiration comes from other creatives of course, but a lot of it just comes from getting out and experiencing life. I’m always motivated to climb the next peak or to find a new trail or to push myself past the next valley. The views always pay off.
The summers are beautiful and offer endless hiking opportunities. The other half of the year the winters are long, cold, and dark which can be frustrating if you don’t make an effort to get out and be active. The thing I love the most about my home is lack of development. I live in a small town 15 minutes from Anchorage and I love that there aren’t millions of people. I also admire, unlike most “insta-famous” states and countries, the lack of tourist/cliché places to take photos. In simpler terms I love that you can go out and hike as far as you want and not see one single person. You can spend a lifetime of hiking here and only scratch the surface. That is what amazes me!
