Knowing that I’m elsewhere exploring makes me happy. I can take a picture and feel at peace knowing it’s just me and my camera, and the stresses of life become nothing more than a fleeting moment.
Growing up, my sister and I were uprooted a lot; though my sister remains content with simple living, I have not been so patient. I believe my childhood plays a large impact on the desire I have to have that constant change of pace.
Still today, after having visited many other places, my most favorite trip that I have taken most recently was spending time with my sisters and mom in Michigan. We spent a couple of weeks together enjoying the lakes, sand dunes, and cozy fires by our cabin. In spite of everything that has been challenging people these past couple of years including myself, I am grateful to have been able to make those unforgettable memories before the world turned upside down.
Living in Tucson, Arizona for an extended period of time led me to appreciate the vibrancy of nature much more. The desert is a mysterious and beautiful place, however, my heart will always be up north. There’s not a day that goes by in my sunny city when I don’t long for rain or to be immersed in a forest of trees.
When I’m doing photography, I am following something, chasing a feeling, or maybe a beautiful landscape. Whatever the case, taking pictures comforts me just as much as driving down the road while singing along to my tunes. Photography is an aspect of my life that makes me happy and encourages me often. Quite honestly, editing is also a very soothing process. Something about the design and my handle on the photo gives me a sense of encouragement. Editing portraits is the most fun I think because once I’m done and show it to others, I can see their excitement which is very fulfilling.
Taking a photography class in high school was the first stepping stone to learning basic photography skills, besides the simple joy I had shooting, that encouraged me to further develop within the world of photography. Since I was already knowledgeable in some aspects, this class reinforced my skills. My mom bought me my first camera after I graduated and that’s when I really began practicing photography more. My passion was strongest then, as I had just begun to learn how to use a camera on my own. I was nervous at first that I wouldn’t get the hang of the settings, that other professional photographers would stare out when I was shooting, but just like anything else it was a learning curve.

With such intense purpose, it became a somewhat freelance gig; portraits here, a wedding there. Still, I am working on bettering my craft. I enjoy what I do, though I have been shooting for years; I wouldn’t consider myself a professional rather, an experienced photographer. I guess I am still figuring things out, I haven’t found my ultimate career, and I don’t think I will. My mindset leads me in many directions, and I hope to gain every opportunity out of life that I can get.
I want to be happy in life, make meaningful memories along the way, and capture them – for myself and for others. For a long time, I cared about what others thought of me, and how I changed each day. That period of my life was short-lived once I realized we can do whatever we want with our time here, life is too short to worry and I want to live mine with ease of mind. Life can be crazy and difficult on its own with everyday problems, leading life by not letting those things bother you is how I like to go about it.

My sister had me watch Star Wars this past May for the first time. I was less than inclined to say the least, however, it grew to be one of my favorite movie series. Anakin is one of my most favored characters. I respect his character because he went after what he believed in. He felt strongly about his life and purpose, and I guess I appreciated that in that aspect. Also on a side note, I found out some was filmed in the Redwoods, I am definitely going to have to get back out there and do some more shooting!
