Best of the week 7 at #nomadict 2020
Many years ago, we went on holidays with the family to the Dolomites. My father took photos of our trip and that’s how my interest in photography and adventure started. I used to steal my father’s camera to take photographs of my little trips near home until I bought my own first reflex camera, which quickly became my adventure companion. Every time I go out I bring my camera with me, so meanwhile photography is an essential aspect of my life.

Even though photography is not my main job, it still plays a role as I often have to take photos for my work. Being a graphic designer really helped me to develop a photographic knowledge; I studied several techniques about photography composition and how to correctly use the manual mode of the camera. Using graphic softwares also contributed to improvement of my editing. When I take a picture I always try to find the viewpoint that best enhances the beauty of landscape, and I always try to make the most of the weather conditions.
Photography teaches you to look differently at the environment, and how to use elements to create a nice picture. It made me understand that world is a wonderful place and that we are surrounded by beautiful things and places that we often cannot see. I learned that nature is our natural habitat and we have to preserve it because it’s an essential part of our life. My travels have played an important role in here too. I travelled a lot in 2019, and had a lot of good experiences. I made excursions in the mountains, whether in my loved Dolomites or in the mountains of Tuscany, and I was able to fulfill my dream to visit Iceland.

The shot I won the contest with has been taken in Iceland too. That morning my group woke up very early to enjoy the sunrise at the Hàifoss waterfall, and I can say that it was one of the best moments of my trip. Before taking that picture, I admired the sun slowly rising over the wild landscape for at least half an hour.

Being in nature is a necessity for me. I think that every person should find time to spend in nature, it’s a really good therapy to the frenetic life we live every day. I especially love the mountains because it’s place that make me feel free and I think that being on the top of mountain and admiring those stunning views it’s one of life’s pleasures. I have learned to better observe my surroundings and appreciate even the smallest details of life. Even my way of being with people has changed and I’ve become more friendly.
