My passion for travel derives from my interest in different cultures. Having the desire to travel doesn’t seem that unique to me, I mean, who would not like to see the entire world and its infinite beauty? But of course then only the ones who are genuinely curious about the world will discover the outdoors and all the good it does to you. I would say I am a nature addict, I really need to go outside. Everyday life can become pretty stressful at times when you’re working fulltime as a photographer. Venturing out into nature always gives me a feeling of coming back to myself. It’s a way to ground myself and return to my own body. If I don’t get to explore nature at least every other weekend, I end up in a very bad mood.

Already when I was little, I loved taking pictures during vacations and receiving positive feedback encouraged me to pursue my hobby. I majored in food photography and now I’m working full time as a photographer for a company that produces kitchen utensils and manages an online food magazine. It’s a job I really love doing but nature photography is what’s really close to my heart and where I find personal fulfillment.

"It is my goal not to lose passion for it now that it has also become part of my everyday routine."

Both types of photography provide me with lots of joy. I like the scientific challenge that comes with styling food for the perfect shot. At my company, we constantly develop new procedures to make food look tastier, make it last longer and I love doing research in this field. Also, maybe the best part of it – we get to eat the sometimes really amazing dishes after shooting them! However, as said before, nature photography is where I find emotional fulfillment. It’s where I unwind from stress and where I challenge myself to achieve personal growth.

"It’s both photography, but there’s a very different energy, feeling and joy I gain from food or landscape photography."

As both types differ from each other, I also need to apply different techniques sometimes. Especially in nature you have to adapt to circumstances that you can’t control yourself, so when you get out to experience nature in any way, you learn the most. I believe that a big part of growing as a photographer is planning your next adventure, besides looking up new things and trying out new equipment. Once during a holiday with my boyfriend in Gran Canaria we decided to take advantage of the morning hours to climb a mountain and take photos of the sunrise from the summit. It was breathtaking and for me it’s one of the most important aspects of photography; the activities you undertake for the perfect shot. Another day, we hiked to the top of Mt. Roque Nublo in the early morning and the journey took us above the clouds.

"The moment of the sun breaking through the clouds and seeing the sun rising beyond was just marvellous."

Of course I also took pictures up there, but I really enjoyed the journey itself as well. It’s always like that; I enjoy and I usually take some time to prepare for that perfect shot. I’m not really a person who takes a bunch of photos just randomly. This way, most of the time I’m already quite satisfied with the lighting in my pictures. So I don’t edit photos to achieve a completely different result but rather to just slightly enhance the original quality. What I really want for my pictures, is that people actually take some time to look at it.

Of course it makes me happy if my picture gets a fair amount of recognition on social media, but what matters is that others can take something from my photography as well, just like I do when I go out with my camera and have such a positive experience. The feeling of being on a mission, which is to discover and share the beauty of nature, motivates me.

"That same mission also taught me about my personal limits, which are never hard limits."

Whenever I felt the need to give up because of exhaustion while climbing a mountain or because of bad weather conditions, I decided to keep going, always having that shot I wanted to get in mind. So I got to discover that I am actually capable of doing way more than I initially thought. Photography allowed me to feel a personal connection to nature, it gave me a mission and it keeps me going whenever I think that I’ve reached my limits. I can totally say that photography has been important for my personal development and being out in nature has a significant role in there.

"I just hope that other people could get to experience that too, that kind of healing power that makes you feel better in many ways."
