My name is Ingi Haraldsson and I was born and raised in Iceland. Ever since I was a kid my parents took me traveling around the country, and nowadays I can’t pass a road without knowing where it leads. I have an unstoppable drive to explore. I modified my car to able to travel those roads; it survived already 23 rivers and it will surely survive much more adventurous paths.
At any kind of trip, I have always been the one with the camera, using the old one that I inherited from my grandparents. I wanted to capture the moments I was experiencing. Only last year I decided to buy myself a DSLR. I remember taking my first pictures with this camera, in the Westfjords, one of the eight regions in Iceland. It is very remote there, with loads of waterfalls and small fishing villages. I wanted to capture the remoteness, the silence, and the spaciousness. That is also the moment that I decided to dedicate myself to photography, so currently I am doing an online course at the New York Institute of Photography.
I have been discovering many places of Iceland; the secret spots, going off road. There are no easy photos, we have to earn it. We have to hike up to unknown places. When I am photographing outside, I feel alive and calm. It gives me a sense of freedom and I love to share this with others. Nowadays I am guiding a lot of people through Iceland. I love to see my country through the eyes of others.
Maybe there will be a point at which I will focus fully on being a guide. I am highly passionate about my country and it is wonderful to show people the greatness of Iceland. It is fascinating, the nature is always changing. Last week I drove into a canyon that is only once a year accessible by car. I took some shots with my drone… It is just impressive and that is exactly what I would like to convey with my photographs. With my pictures I want to show how small we are compared to nature.
