As a kid I would always see my father taking pictures with his film camera. We were looking at negatives and developing images… We definitely had a good time. When he bought a new digital camera, I started picking it up and trying out. Just to see if anything interesting would come out. And that’s how it all started. Later I purchased my own camera and I became more serious about it.
Seeing my friends and family getting excited about the pictures I was taking definitely contributed to my growth within the world of photography. Today, my passion is bigger than ever.
The beauty around us is so inspiring. Every time I go on a photo tour with friends, I realize more and more that the beauty surrounding us is everywhere. Enjoying it along with people you love makes it even more exciting. Always remember to do more of what you love!
Especially in my home country Switzerland, I keep being surprised even if I go back to the same places. The winning shot was taken at one of my favorite places, where I went together with a friend. We were in a perfect mood that day… Clouds moving in and out, dancing around the summits, creating impressive panoramas. It was just what we were looking for.
I had a clear vision for the shot that I wanted and the final result, the mountain popping out of the clouds which was definitely the main subject. I looked for a good foreground to create depth in the scene. The human presence was perfect for the scale…and here we are with the winning shot I love so much.
Most important for me is the power of nature to be told and inspire people to preserve it. And I think I’ve found my style to achieve this. I had a bumpy road, going through various styles and trying out a few different types of moods before I established the one that you see on my Instagram feed now. Meeting photographers, getting inspired by them and other people on the gram is for sure something good and interesting. Trying to replicate some styles can be a good start, along the way you will learn many things which sooner or later will bring you to your own editing techniques. That’s how it went for me too. I always loved the dark and moody scenes but it took me a while to be happy with and make it my own.
Nevertheless, we should always keep in mind that it remains art – it is intended to change and evolve as you grow as a photographer. That’s the beauty of the process.
