Travel photographer based in Belgium

My name is Bruno Claeys and I am a thirty years-old photographer based in Ghent, Belgium. Since I was a child, I traveled quite a lot with my parents on various holidays: exploring different countries and going on outdoor adventures.

After I graduated from college, I met my wife and we completed our first backpacking trip to Sri Lanka in 2015. My interests began to change and I caught the travel bug. After our trip to Sri Lanka, I became interested in photography. And both photography and traveling became part of my daily life.

It is quite interesting to think how travel can change your life. Traveling can fundamentally change how you live life and break down constricting biases and beliefs. In travel, you get to experience so many fantastic moments. However, the best trips I have taken were those where I limited expectations of the destination and fully immersed myself, often stepping outside of my comfort zone in new and challenging ways.

So, traveling can sometimes be demanding and exhausting, unless you stay in one location. If you travel as a photographer is even more challenging, because you have to adapt your daily routines to sunrises and sunsets and find locations you want to visit. Nevertheless, it is this effort what changes your perspective since you can fully experience the culture, sharing unique and memorable moments.

"Thanks to photography, I have realized that everyday we can live beautiful experiences."

The type of moment that takes my breath away every time is when I wake up to hike. Walking for hours to a specific place, arriving alone and being able to experience mind blowing views right before the first sun rays reach the horizon has become like a therapy to me. The secret to a good morning is to watch the sunrise with an open heart.

"And if you can capture it even better!"

This is exactly what I love about photography. Telling my story, being able to remember moments visually and save them for future generations is priceless to me. I hope one day I can dedicate myself entirely to this art. If I ever have the opportunity, I would certainly take the shot. For the time being, I hope to inspire people to go out and discover new places.

"Go see! It's a big world out there, it would be a shame not to experience it!"
